Today, Ukraine has survived one of the heaviest drone attacks when Russia launched 54 Shahed attack UAVs at once, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said on Telegram.

"Almost all of them were shot down. Unfortunately, there are hits in Zhytomyr Region. But still, most of the destruction was averted, most of the lives that could have been taken by these Shaheds were saved," the head of state said.

He thanked everyone who defended the Ukrainian sky that night.

"Air defence missile forces and aviation of the Air Force, air defence of the Ground Forces and our mobile firing groups... Thank you, warriors," Zelenskyy said.

The president added that during this terrorist attack, the most powerful strike was directed against Kyiv Region.

"This is how Russia celebrates the Day of our ancient Kyiv... Throughout its history, Kyiv has seen various mean acts by the invaders. It survived them all - it will survive the ruscists too. None of them will be here," he stressed.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, last night Russia launched another massive strike against Ukraine using Iranian Shahed attack drones. Ukrainian air defences destroyed 58 out of 59 drones. In total, the enemy conducted 91 air strikes and fired about 25 times from multiple launch rocket systems at Ukrainian troop positions and populated areas over the course of the day.
