Ukraine imposes sanctions against Iran for 50 years

At a meeting on 29 May, the Ukrainian parliament adopted Resolution No. 9331 on approving the decision of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine of 27 May 2023 "On the application of sectoral special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) against the Islamic Republic of Iran", Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a member of the Voice faction, has told LB.ua.

The relevant resolution was submitted to parliament by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"In accordance with Article 93 of the Constitution of Ukraine and part two of Article 5 of the Law of Ukraine "On Sanctions", I submit to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine a draft resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine "On Approval of the Decision of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine of 27 May 2023 "On the Application of Sectoral Special Economic and Other Restrictive Measures (Sanctions) to the Islamic Republic of Iran", the submission says.

The National Security, Defence and Intelligence Committee noted that "by this decision, the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine supported the proposals made by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on 'the application of certain sectoral economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) to the Islamic Republic of Iran for a period of 50 years'.
