Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has denied reports that Chinese Ambassador Li Hui suggested an immediate ceasefire while recognising Russia's occupation of Ukrainian territories.
In a video address, Kuleba said that he had contacted his European counterparts from the capitals visited by Li Hui, and none of them confirmed the allegation.
"None of them confirms that there have been any talks or negotiations about recognising the territories in Ukraine that Russia is currently occupying. I urge you to keep a cool mind, common sense, and not to react emotionally to every publication. We control the process, no one will do anything against us behind Ukraine's back," the minister said.
He added that Ukraine will continue to engage in dialogue with China, but "it will be conducted in accordance with three basic principles": mutual respect for territorial integrity, no proposals that involve territorial concessions will be considered by Ukraine, and no frozen conflict.
On 26 May, the Wall Street Journal wrote that during a trip to Europe, Li Hui called for an immediate end to the war in Ukraine by leaving the seized territories with Russia.
Earlier, the presidential office held a briefing for Li Hui on the security situation in Ukraine. The Chinese delegation was briefed on the facts of Russia's war crimes. China was also urged to join the implementation of the Ukrainian peace formula. During his meeting with Hui, Kuleba stressed that Ukraine does not accept any proposals that would involve the loss of its territories.
In contrast, the Chinese special envoy said during his visit to Kyiv that there was no panacea for the war in Ukraine, but that the parties should create conditions for peace talks.
