Today, the EU and Norway signed an agreement on the second tranche of Norway's voluntary financial contribution to the European Peace Fund (EPF) for military equipment to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
This is stated on the EU website.
Norway allocated funds for the supply of ammunition and spare parts for Leopard II tanks.
Josep Borrell, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, noted that the joint efforts of the EU and Norway will provide military assistance to Ukraine is "an example of how synergy can increase our support to Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression."
"Together with our partners, we will continue to help Ukraine in all possible ways as long as necessary. This is also another confirmation of close cooperation between the EU and Norway in security and defense issues," added Borrell.
In February, the Norwegian government announced its decision to support Ukraine through the European Peace Fund with a voluntary financial contribution of 250mn Norwegian crowns (approximately 22mn euros). Today's agreement legally formalised this decision and guarantees that Norway will be able to effectively participate in the supply of military equipment for Ukraine.
This is the second tranche from Norway to the European Peace Fund. Thus, its contribution has already reached 400mn Norwegian crowns (approximately 36.5mn euros).
In March, the Norwegian Defence Ministry announced that Norway will contribute 250mn crowns to the European Peace Fund for ammunition for Ukraine.
The Minister of Defence stated that his state would support various methods of training Ukrainians on F-16 fighting falcons. Recently, the Norwegian government announced that it will increase military support to Ukraine by 2.5bn crowns this year. Totally, it will be 10bn crowns or 960mn dollars.
Later it was reported that Norway is transferring two NASAMS packages and another thousand Black Hornet drones to Ukraine.
