World kickboxing champion Serhiy Lysyuk dies of war wounds

Lysyuk was an Honoured Master of Sports of Ukraine, won multiple European and world championships.

World kickboxing champion Serhiy Lysyuk died after being fatally wounded in the war, according to the press service of the Ukrainian parliament.

Lysyuk was a Honoured Master of Sports of Ukraine, multiple European and world champion. He also passed on his experience to the younger generation. He worked as a lecturer at the Physical Training Department of the Academy of the State Penitentiary Service.

Serhiy defended the country in the Donetsk sector. On 12 November 2023, while performing a combat mission in one of the hottest spots in Donbas, he tripped a mine.

The athlete's leg was amputated, but his life could not be saved, according to the Faculty of Physical Education of the National University Chernihiv Collegium, from which he graduated. For about 10 days, doctors in Dnipro fought for his life, but the injuries were too severe.

Lysyuk died on 22 November 2023.
