Russian forces shelled Chasiv Yar in Donetsk Region with Grad multiple rocket launchers, the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office has said.
According to preliminary reports, the Russians shelled the settlement for two hours. At that moment, the residents were receiving water and bread from volunteers.
A 50-year-old woman died on the spot from injuries. Five other people – four women and one man aged 38 to 84 – sustained shrapnel wounds. The oldest victim is in a serious condition, doctors are fighting for her life.
The shelling also damaged private houses and a car.
A pre-trial investigation has been initiated over the violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Previous shelling attacks on Chasiv Yar:
- Chasiv Yar, located a few kilometres west of Bakhmut, is constantly suffering from hostilities.
- Russians attacked a car carrying volunteers from the Road2Relief organisation near the town in September. One of them was killed, two were injured, and another person went missing.
- The previous large-scale attack on the settlement took place late on 9 July. Then, the Russian forces shelled a five-storey building in the town with Uragan rockets. As a result of the shelling, two sections of the building were completely destroyed. Almost 50 people were killed.
