Representatives of the Slovak national community in Transcarpathian Region published an open appeal to President of the European Council Charles Michel and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

The text of the appeal was published by the head of the Transcarpathian Regional Cultural and Educational Society of Slovak Women "Trust" Jana Dudas-Ryzhak and the head of NGO Society of Slovak Intelligentsia of Transcarpathian Region Ernest Horvat.

The representatives of the national minority ask them to support the decision to open negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the EU during the European Council meeting to be held on 14-15 December and call on all EU leaders to continue to support Ukraine on the path of European integration.

"Over the past year, Ukraine has demonstrated significant progress in implementing the European Commission's recommendations on ensuring the rights of national minorities. The new draft law adopted by the Ukrainian parliament reflects the interests of national minorities to the fullest extent possible and enjoys our full support. This step is important for confirming Ukraine's commitment to strengthening the rights of people of different nationalities throughout the country and in Transcarpathian Region in particular," the statement reads.

The signatories stressed that even during Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukraine "continues to implement the necessary reforms and remains committed to its European integration values".

The same appeal was signed by representatives of the Hungarian minority, according to Yevropeyska Pravda. They called on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to support the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
