On the evening of 26 December, the Russian army shelled a railway station in Kherson, where about 140 civilians were waiting for an evacuation train to depart, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko has said.

The police began evacuating people and managed to get everyone to safety. Two civilians sustained shrapnel wounds and are being treated.

A police lieutenant from Kirovohrad Region, who was on duty in Kherson as part of a combined unit, was killed in the shelling during the evacuation.

Two more police officers were taken to hospital with shrapnel wounds.

The Kherson regional military administration said that Russians also targeted Ukrainian Railway trains. Passengers will be delivered by buses to Mykolayiv. Spare train cars are being prepared to take them to safety.
