In December, Russian troops shot three Ukrainian prisoners of war in Zaporizhzhya Region. The video of the crime is currently being shared on the Internet.
According to the investigation, Russian army soldiers took three Ukrainian defenders prisoner during an engagement near the village of Robotyne, Zaporizhzhya Region. An hour later, in violation of Article 3 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Russians shot them dead, the Prosecutor-General's Office said.
"Under the procedural supervision of the Zaporizhzhya regional prosecutor's office, criminal proceedings have been initiated on the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," it said. This is not the only war crime committed by Russians against prisoners. Over the course of the month, a video was posted online of Russian soldiers executing Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered. There were also reports of Ukrainian prisoners of war being used as human shields on the contact line.
