A civilian vessel flying the Panamanian flag has hit an enemy mine in the Black Sea. Two sailors were wounded.
The bulk carrier was on its way to a Danube port to load grain. As a result of the explosion, the vessel lost its momentum and control, and a fire broke out on the top deck, the Southern Defence Forces and the State Border Guard Service reported.
"To avoid sinking, the captain fixed the ship in the shallows. The boats of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and the search and rescue service immediately assisted the crew and brought medics on board. One wounded sailor was treated on the spot, the other was taken to the nearest hospital. His condition is satisfactory," the border guards said in a statement.
Tugs have been sent to the vessel to remove it from the shoal and deliver it to the port.
Due to the war unleashed by Russia, ships have been hit by mines before. In particular, those transporting grain from Ukraine to countries that need it.
