Since the beginning of 2023, Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) officers have destroyed more than 500 Russian tanks that were shelling and trying to break through the positions of the Defence Forces, the special service said in a press release.

A powerful arsenal of anti-tank weapons and modern unmanned aerial vehicles was used to maximise the damage to Russian armoured vehicles.

Among the destroyed tanks are are state-of-the-art T-90 and T-90M worth nearly $5 million each.

"First of all, the occupiers used this equipment as part of the so-called 'armoured fists' to storm Avdiyivka and Bakhmut," the SBU said.

Russians also used heavy armoured vehicles to deter counter-offensive operations of Ukrainian defenders in the Melitopol and Berdyansk areas.

"The effective destruction of Russian tanks on the battlefield was the result of the SBU's sophisticated operational and combat operations in cooperation with the Armed Forces of Ukraine," it added.
