Police in Dnipropetrovsk Region detained a suspect in the murder of the deputy mayor of Nikopol, press service of Interior Ministry reported.
The 33-year-old local resident had been preparing to commit the crime for four months. The offender fired over 20 times at the victim and threw a grenade into the car, which led to the car catching fire and the man's death.
After the murder, the attacker buried the weapon in a forest and was hiding in a rented apartment, where he was detained by law enforcement.
The pre-trial investigation also revealed that the suspect was planning to commit similar crimes against other Nikopol officials. This information is currently being verified.
Investigators served the offender a notice of suspicion under Clause 5, Part 2, Article 115 (premeditated murder) of the Criminal Code. The court imposed on him a custodial measure of restraint.
