At a joint press conference in Hostomel, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen promised Ukrainians that Europe would help Kyiv as long as it is needed.
"Today we are here with the whole of Europe to pay tribute to your courage. It was you who gave the Ukrainian resistance a chance. And look at all that Ukraine has achieved since then. On the ground, you drove Russia out of half the territories it had seized. You have driven out the Russian fleet at sea and restored a sea corridor to the whole world. Your defence has become incredibly effective in the air. You are protecting your people from Russian missiles and drones," Von der Leyen said.
Ursula von der Leyen added that Europe would continue to support Ukraine financially.
"Today we are here to say that Europe will help you as much as you need. There will be financial support, more ammunition, more training for your troops, more air defence equipment and more investment in the defence industry in Europe and Ukraine," she added.
The diplomat also compared the downed Mriya aircraft to the dream of a free Ukraine. She said that Russia would not succeed in destroying the Ukrainian people.
