Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed his intention to reduce the number of government institutions and ministries. This is necessary to accumulate additional resources for the war, he said in an interview with Le Monde.

According to the president, "there are steps to reduce certain positions". He did not specify which ones.

The president noted that the country's priority is now defence and protection of civilians.

"If this requires the reduction of some institutions and even ministries for the duration of the war, we will do it," he said.

On 4 March, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that the number of ministries would be reduced by a third and that a Government Centre would be created. He did not specify which ministries would be dropped.
