Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba will visit India next week to seek support for Ukraine's "peace formula," Reuters reports, citing Indian officials.
This is the first visit of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister to India since the start of the full-scale invasion.
According to the agency, New Delhi has traditionally had close economic and defence ties with the Kremlin and refrained from criticising Russia for its February 2022 invasion, instead increasing its purchases of Russian oil to record levels.
Dmytro Kuleba's visit will be at the invitation of his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, following a phone call between Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier this year, one of the officials said, speaking anonymously.
Another senior official added that in addition to talks with Indian officials, Kuleba also intends to "revisit the India-Ukraine intergovernmental commission," a commission tasked with maintaining economic, cultural and technological ties between the two countries.
The Indian Foreign Ministry did not respond to a request for comment. According to the sources, an official announcement of the visit is expected next week.
Reuters adds that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Russian President Vladimir Putin to congratulate him on his election victory. In a statement, the Indian government said Modi reiterated India's "consistent position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward" in the Ukraine crisis.
