The German government has promised to supply up to 400 MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) armoured vehicles with enhanced mine protection to the Ukrainian military from January to October 2024. However, no deliveries have yet begun, BILD writes.
Germany has promised to supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with up to 400 MRAP heavy wheeled armoured vehicles with enhanced mine protection. The relevant contract was signed by the Ukrainian government and the German defence company Flensburger Fahrzeugbau GmbH (FFG) with funding from the German budget totalling €315 million.
The German Ministry of Defence said that all the vehicles are to be delivered this year.
The publication has obtained a document from the German Ministry of Defence dated September 2023, which states that the armoured vehicles are to be delivered in batches of 20 from January to October 2024. However, no deliveries have started yet.
It became known that this year's plan was reduced first to 200 and then to 100 vehicles. The start of deliveries was postponed from January to May-June. The reason is that FFG receives spare parts for MRAPs from the US and only assembles them in Germany.
The company faced "export licence restrictions from the US to Germany" and problems with mine protection certification.
