The European Parliament has adopted resolutions condemning Vladimir Putin's "re-election" and calling for the non-recognition of its legitimacy.
This was reported by Yevropeiska Pravda with reference to the press service of the European Parliament. In the document, which was supported by 493 people, the deputies called the Russian elections a "farce".
They called on EU member states not to recognise the results of these elections, as the Kremlin also held them in the occupied Ukrainian territories, and the elections in Russia were not free.
The resolution noted that the purpose of the imitation of the voting process was to legitimise Putin's continued power and internal repression and war against Ukraine.
Separately, the document expressed regret that the prime minister of the EU member state Hungary decided to congratulate Putin on his victory.
"Members of the European Parliament call on the EU and its member states to continue to actively support independent Russian civil society organisations, independent media and human rights defenders, and to actively engage with and offer support to the Russian democratic opposition," the communiqué says.
Resolutions of the European Parliament are not binding, but only highlight its position.
