The EU has started working on opening a Defence Innovation Office in Kyiv. This was announced at the EU-Ukraine Defence Industry Forum by European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton, Yevropeyska Pravda reported.
According to Breton, the Defence Innovation Office in Kyiv is being opened to create a bridge between innovative start-ups in the EU and Ukrainian companies and the Armed Forces, so that European start-ups can help Ukrainian soldiers on the battlefield.
"I am glad that practical work on this task has already begun," Breton said.
He reminded that the EU has recently adopted a new strategy for the defence industry.
"The strategy aims not only to support European defence preparedness, but also to strengthen ties between the European and Ukrainian defence industries," Breton said.
He added that the new strategy sets a clear priority for further development of cooperation.
Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine Oleksandr Kamyshyn noted that work is underway to formulate the tasks and structure of the Office.
