On the night of 8 May 2024, the Russian army launched a combined attack with missiles of various types and attack UAVs.
According to the commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykola Oleshchuk, the Russian military used a total of 76 air attack weapons - 55 missiles and 21 attack drones:
- One X-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missile (launched from Tambov Region - Russian Federation);
- Two Iskander-M ballistic missiles (from the TOT of Crimea);
- Four Kalibr cruise missiles (from the Black Sea);
- 45 X-101/X-555 cruise missiles from Tu-95 MS strategic aviation aircraft (launch area Saratov Region - Russian Federation, Caspian Sea);
- One Iskander-K cruise missile (from Crimea);
- Two X-59/X-69 guided missiles (from the occupied Zaporizhzhya Region);
- 21 Shahed-131/136 strike UAVs (from the areas of Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk Region, Russia).
Fighter aircraft, anti-aircraft missile troops of the Air Force, mobile fire groups and electronic warfare units of the Ukrainian Defence Forces were involved in repelling the Russian air attack.
As a result of the anti-aircraft battle, 59 air targets were destroyed:
- 33 X-101/X-555 cruise missiles;
- 4 Kalibr cruise missiles;
- 2 X-59/X-69 guided missiles;
- 20 Shahed-131/136 strike UAVs.
"The enemy continues to strike at Ukraine's critical infrastructure and other important strategic sites. I thank everyone who made every effort today to prevent the enemy from achieving their goals," Oleshchuk added.
