Italy has appointed Carlo Formosa as ambassador to Ukraine, an experienced diplomat who previously headed the embassy in Portugal.

This is reported on the embassy's page on the social network X.

Formosa noted that he would be proud to represent Italy and work to contribute to a just peace, the future reconstruction of Ukraine and its movement towards EU membership.

According to the Italian ANSA, Formosa, a 61-year-old, has a degree in political science. He has been working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1992. He also worked at the embassy in Vietnam, then in Iran, after which he held various positions in the Foreign Ministry until 2017.

After a short stint in the private sector, Formosa became ambassador to Portugal in 2020 and was appointed ambassador to Ukraine on 1 July 2024.
