Members of the European Parliament of the new convocation have re-elected Roberta Metsola as President of the European Parliament in the first round of elections.

A total of 623 MEPs took part in the voting for the European Parliament president. Metsola received 562 votes.
She will serve in this position for another two and a half years.
Who is Roberta Metsola ?
- Maltese politician.
- In 2002, Roberta was appointed Secretary General of the European Democratic Students' Organisation.
- From 2012 to 2013, she worked as a legal adviser to Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
- Since 2013, she has been a Member of the European Parliament from Malta. She was re-elected in 2014 and 2019.
- She is a member of the Maltese Nationalist Party, which is part of the centre-right European People's Party group in the European Parliament.
- In November 2020, Metsola was elected First Vice-President of the European Parliament.
- On 11 January 2022, after the death of President David Sassoli, Metsola became acting President of the European Parliament. On 18 January 2022, she was elected President of the European Parliament with 458 votes.
- In May, Metsola visited Kyiv and confirmed that Ukraine would remain in the European Union.
