The EU countries have agreed to nominate Ursula von der Leyen for a second term as President of the European Commission.
This was reported by the Suddeutsche Zeitung.
The agency learnt about the agreement on Tuesday from negotiating circles.
The candidacy, which will be officially announced by EU leaders, must then be approved by the European Parliament. The vote is scheduled for 27-28 June.
Earlier it was reported that the leaders of the 27 EU member states failed to reach a final agreement on the distribution of key positions in the bloc after the election of the new European Parliament.
It was noted that Ursula von der Leyen remains the main contender for the post of President of the European Commission. Former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa is to head the European Council, and the current Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas will be responsible for diplomacy instead of Josep Borrell.
Ursula von der Leyen has been heading the European Commission since 2019.
