On 24 July, the Shevchenkivskyy District Court of Kyiv imposed a pre-trial restraint on Mykhaylo Grechko, co-owner of the Zelenskyy estate, accused of deliberately destroying the historic building. The suspect was given personal obligations.

This was reported by Suspilne.

The prosecutor demanded a measure of restraint in the form of a personal commitment due to the risk of the suspect Grechko hiding from the pre-trial investigation and court. It is known that in 2023, the accused had already travelled abroad using the Shlyakh system.

The prosecution also demanded that the suspect surrender all his passports, prohibit communication with witnesses, and impose an obligation not to travel outside Kyiv and the Region.

At the same time, the suspect's defence insisted that the destroyed building did not belong to the cultural heritage.

‘We have a response from the Ministry of Culture that the object is not included in the register and the object does not belong to the cultural heritage site,’ said the suspect's lawyer Grechko and handed over copies of supporting documents, including those from the Ministry of Culture.

Mykhaylo Grechko himself pleads not guilty to the criminal offence. He noted that the exterior and interior of the Zelenskyy estate was to be restored within the foundation.

The court imposed a measure of restraint on the suspect in the form of a personal commitment: he is obliged to report to the investigator, notify him of any change of residence, refrain from communicating with witnesses and hand over his passports.

The measure of restraint will remain in force until 23 September 2024.
