For the first time in Ukraine, a suspect in smuggling of imported raw materials for the manufacture of tobacco products has been notified of being suspected of smuggling (Part 1 of Article 201-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). This was reported by the Prosecutor General's Office.

Article 201-3 "Smuggling of goods" of the Criminal Code came into force on 1 July this year.

According to the investigation, a resident of Chernivtsi district, travelling from Romania to Ukraine through the Porubne-Siret checkpoint of the Chernivtsi customs office, chose the green corridor lane for customs control. By doing so, he certified that he was not moving any goods subject to mandatory declaration.

However, during an in-depth inspection of the vehicle, customs officers found and seized 55 boxes of filter sticks for cigarettes from a specially equipped cache in the cargo compartment.

The value of the seized raw materials is almost UAH 13 million.

The issue of choosing a type of detention is being settled.
