White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre, commenting on the events in the Kursk Region, reminded that Russians are attacking Ukraine from this territory. She said this at a briefing, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
Jean-Pierre confirmed the information previously voiced by her colleagues that Washington would contact Kyiv to obtain information about the Kursk Region. She also said that the United States continues to support Ukraine.
"We have to remember that - obviously, there are Russian troops in this region. They are there and they are attacking Ukraine from this region. So, we cannot forget that," she added.
Jean-Pierre, like the State Department spokesperson earlier, recalled the unchanged position of the United States on Ukrainian strikes against Russia with American weapons.
Matthew Miller, a State Department spokesman, said that Ukraine had not informed the United States about its plans for the Kursk Region. He stressed that it is normal not to inform about current actions.
Context.
On 6 August , there was talk of a border breach in the Kursk Region. Initially, the Russians claimed that their FSB had contained the attack, but later admitted that a certain number of troops and equipment had entered their territory. Pro-war Russian bloggers wrote about the loss of some settlements. Partial evacuations were also announced there, and Putin even commented on the border breach.
Ukraine has not commented on the operation in the Kursk Region. Only the head of the Centre for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, said on the first day that Russian claims of border control were untrue.
Ukraine's allies have been cautious in their assessments of the events, but both the EU and the US have stressed that Ukraine has the right to defend itself.
