The SBU and the National Police have collected evidence against two Russian war criminals who tortured Colonel Oleksiy Telizhenko, the Assistant Rector of the SBU National Academy, to death.

The defendants are Lieutenant Colonel Denis Suvorov, commander of the 175th separate reconnaissance battalion of the 76th Pskov Air Assault Division of the Russian Airborne Forces, and his deputy, Captain Aslan Kaskulov.

At the beginning of the full-scale war, both occupants took part in the seizure of part of the territory of Kyiv Region and carried out so-called "cleansing operations" there. For this purpose, on the orders of the defendants, their subordinates travelled around the then-occupied settlements of the region, broke into the homes of local residents and abducted them.

During one of these "raids" in Bucha on 6 March 2022, the Russians imprisoned Oleksiy Telizhenko and brought him to a command post located in a forest belt near the village of Vorzel. There, Suvorov and Kaskulov ordered their subordinates to tie the Ukrainian officer to a tree and began to torture him.

According to the investigation, Suvorov personally struck the victim's head and torso with his hands and feet, and then stuck a wooden stake into the wound on his head. The torture lasted for several hours. Then, the semi-conscious Telizhenko was thrown into a pre-digged pit, where he died at night from his injuries and cold.

After the de-occupation of Kyiv Region, the body of the tortured SBU officer was found at the crime scene. Another 8 people killed by Russians in civilian clothes were also found there.

Based on the collected evidence, SBU investigators served Suvorov and Kaskulov suspicion notices in absentia under the articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy).

Currently, comprehensive measures are being taken to find and punish both Russian war criminals.
