On 9 August, special forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate landed on the Kinburn Spit.
According to the DIU, they captured six armoured vehicles and killed about 30 Russians. The landing operation was carried out by the Chymera, Aratta, Stugna, Paragon, Siberian Battalion, and Terror units of the DIU's Tymur Special Forces with the support of the Ukrainian Navy and in cooperation with other components of the Security and Defence Forces.
The intelligence agency noted that during the mission on the spit, the special forces attacked Russian fortifications at their positions "Kinburn Fortress", "Marine Station" and "Suvorov Monument". Near the latter, Ukrainian soldiers planted a battle flag of the Military Intelligence of Ukraine.
- The Kinburn Spit is the only part of Mykolaiv region that remains under occupation of the Russians, who seized it in March 2022 from Kherson Region. The spit is important because it is the exit from the ports of Kherson and Mykolayiv.
