Air Assault Forces show first hours of offensive in Kursk Region

Careful preparation, planning, surprise, morale and information silence were decisive at the initial stage of the operation.

The Command of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine showed footage of the first hours of the Defence Forces' offensive in the Kursk Region on 6 August this year. 

This is stated on the Air Assault Forces' website.

"Mine clearance, border breakthrough, destruction of enemy defences, aviation and artillery operations, prisoners. A day that will go down in the history of the Russian-Ukrainian war," the Command commented on the operation. 

They also added that at the initial stage of the operation, careful preparation, planning, surprise, morale and information silence were crucial. 

"Now everything depends on the resilience of the Ukrainian soldiers of all branches of the armed forces involved in the operation," the Air Assault stressed. 

  • On 14 August, more than 100 Russian soldiers decided to surrender to the Ukrainian Defence Forces in the Kursk Region.
  • As of 15 August, Ukraine controls 82 settlements in the Kursk Region, a military commandant's office has been set up and there is talk of humanitarian corridors for civilians.
  • The Kursk operation has been going on since 6 August. On 12 August, Kyiv recognised it. Among the goals were disruption of Russian logistics for other areas and the creation of a buffer zone in the Kursk Region, from which Sumy is being attacked.
