Germany has allocated new military aid to Ukraine, according to the government's website.

The package includes, among other things, a new IRIS-T SLS air defence system, shells, maritime and reconnaissance drones, and assault rifles.

What is included in the package

  • One IRIS-T SLS air defence system;
  • 14,000 rounds of 155 mm ammunition (from Bundeswehr and industry stocks);
  • 10 maritime drones;
  • 26 VECTOR reconnaissance drones with spare parts;
  • materials for the disposal of explosive ordnance (from Bundeswehr and industry stocks);
  • 6 highly mobile engineering excavators;
  • one Bergepanzer 2 armoured evacuation vehicle with spare parts;
  • 55,000 first aid kits;
  • 700 MK 556 assault rifles;
  • 10 HLR 338 precision rifles with 240,000 rounds of ammunition;
  • 50 CR 308 rifles.

So far, Germany has spent approximately €5 billion on military aid to Ukraine in 2023 and approximately €1.6 billion in 2022. An additional 2.9 billion euros were allocated in the first two years of the war for supplies that will be delivered only in 2025-2028.

At the same time, Bloomberg wrote that Berlin will no longer approve new requests for aid to Ukraine as the government seeks to limit spending.

‘While current programmes will generally continue, additional requests for military support will not be approved,’ the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported, citing government documents and emails, as well as government sources.
