Air defence forces destroy 13 Russian air targets

Two KN-23 ballistic missiles, 3 cruise missiles and 8 Shaheds were destroyed.

On the night of 18 August, Russia launched a combined attack on Ukraine. In particular, Russians launched North Korean KN-23 missiles, cruise missiles and attack drones. 

This was reported by the Commander of the Air Force of Ukraine Mykola Oleshchuk.

The commander notes that "a total of 16 enemy air attack means were detected by the Air Force's radio engineering troops: 1 Iskander-M ballistic missile; 2 KN-23 ballistic missiles; 2 X-59 guided missiles; 3 cruise missiles (type to be specified) and 8 Shahed-131/136 strike UAVs."

Air Force anti-aircraft missile troops, mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defence Forces and electronic warfare units destroyed 13 air targets within Kyiv, Sumy and Poltava Regions.

Destroyed: 

  • 2 KN-23 ballistic missiles;
  • 3 cruise missiles (type to be specified);
  • 8 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs.

The remaining missiles that were not included in the statistics of those shot down did not reach their intended targets. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties or injuries.
