Cyber activists from the BO Team have blocked the work of the Vega Internet provider in the Russian city of Snezhinsk, Chelyabinsk Region. The Russian nuclear munitions developer All-Russian Research Institute of Technical Physics uses the provider's services, Sprotyv reports.
"The results exceeded expectations. More than 1,173 switches of the provider and 10 servers of the company were disabled, and the information on them was completely destroyed. As a result, the provision of Internet and communication services to a number of strategic enterprises of the city has been blocked for five days in a row, and the prospects for their full restoration leave much to be desired," the BO Team wrote.
Vega is the only Internet provider in the city. At the same time, one of the city's major enterprises, VNIITF (All-Russian Research Institute of Technical Physics), a developer of nuclear munitions, uses the services of this provider only.
As a result of their high-quality work, the hackers obtained personal data and documents of the sanctioned plant.
"It is already obvious from them who and how helps the institute to circumvent them. Eloquent correspondence and comments posted on local social media platforms indicate that the cyberattack may disrupt the state defence order," adds Spistov.
Team has claimed responsibility for the hacker attack.
