Woman killed in Zhytomyr Region as of Russian shelling

Residential buildings and critical infrastructure facilities were damaged. One person was wounded. 

A 32-year-old woman died in Zhytomyr Region as a result of Russian shelling. 

This was reported by Suspilne with reference to the head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration Vitaliy Bunechko. Later, the Prosecutor General's Office clarified that a person was also injured. 

According to Bunechko, a piece of a downed Shahed drone fell in one of the villages of the Zvyagel district. As a result, a woman born in 1992 died. 

Later, Bunechko wrote on his telegram channel that the massive missile attack had damaged residential buildings and critical infrastructure.

Due to the difficult situation in the power system, emergency power outages have been introduced.

Rescuers and repair teams are working.

"Under the procedural supervision of the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation was initiated in criminal proceedings over violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1, 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). According to the investigation, on the morning of 26 August 2024, the Russian armed forces attacked Zhytomyr Region with missiles and UAVs. The enemy struck at civilian infrastructure and civilians. So far, one person has been killed and another wounded. Several residential buildings caught fire. Final data on the victims are being established. Prosecutors, law enforcement officers and employees of the State Emergency Service are working at the scene. Law enforcement agencies are recording war crimes of the aggressor state. The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by the SBU Office in Zhytomyr Region," the Prosecutor General's Office said. 

  • At about 1 a.m., Ru launched a drone attack. Russia fired a large number of drones, and after 7am, missiles were launched.
  • The deaths were reported in Lutsk, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro regions. In Poltava, five people were wounded.
  • The enemy targeted the energy sector again.
  • Zhytomyr was cut off from electricity as a result of the Russian attack. As a result, there is no water supply in the city.
