Two schemes for smuggling conscripts abroad uncovered in Transcarpathian Region

Two schemes for smuggling people liable for military service abroad were exposed in Transcarpathia.

This was reported by the Specialised Defence Prosecutor's Office of the Western Region.

In particular, a 46-year-old head of the military medical commission at the regional military recruitment centre, a nurse at the central hospital in Khust and a local resident were served with a notice of suspicion for acting as part of a criminal group. A 53-year-old native of Khmelnytskyy was also served a notice of suspicion.

In both schemes, the suspects were obliged to produce deliberately false official medical documents in exchange for money, on the basis of which the persons liable for military service were to be declared unfit for military service and removed from the military register. In this way, they would have been able to leave the country without hindrance during the war. 

The nurse and her accomplice were documented to have received two tranches of the bribe - USD 5,000 and USD 1,500, which they planned to distribute among all participants. Another suspect, who ensured that a citizen received a disability group, was exposed while receiving USD 6,000. They were detained.

During 26 authorised searches of medical facilities and the suspects' residences, the law enforcement seized medical records, drafts, phones, laptops, cash and other material evidence.

Currently, three detainees have been imposed custody as a measure of restraint. A motion to impose a preventive measure in the form of detention and removal from office was served on the head of the MMC. At the same time, the involvement of other members of the military medical commission in the criminal offence is being checked.
