There is no threat of a dam breach at the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant and flooding of the territories.

This was stated by Ukrhydroenergo CEO Ihor Syrota.

He informed that as of 28 August, the debris was being cleared at Kyivska Hydroelectric Power Plant. It is not yet possible to assess all the technical consequences and the time required to repair the damage.

‘No one was injured during the attack on the plant, as all HPP employees strictly follow safety measures and were in shelters at the time of the attack,’ said Syrota.

He also said that there is not a single Ukrhydroenergo station that has not been damaged. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the stations have been hit about 130 times. Kakhovka HPP has been lost, and Dnipro HPP is not operating. The company's other HPPs and Pumped Storage Power Plants are currently in the process of restoration.

The company's key objective is to restore the lost capacity as much as possible before the start of the autumn and winter period. However, the restoration requires both financial and human resources and time, as the equipment at the company's plants is non-linear and takes a long time to manufacture.

Ukrhydroenergo has lost more than 40% of its generation. However, hydropower generation continues to provide the power system with balancing capacities as much as possible,’ added Syrota.
