On 5 September, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis signed a law on the free transfer of the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine.

This was reported by Digi24.

As stated in the published document, the Patriot air defence system will be transferred in the configuration agreed with the United States.

In addition, the Romanian government is authorised to take the necessary measures to restore ground-based air defence capabilities. This means that Romania will now purchase another Patriot to protect its skies, replacing the one that will be transferred to Ukraine.

In particular, the purchase of a similar complex, including main equipment, vehicles, materials, parts, maintenance equipment, initial logistics package and training, etc.

At the same time, the Ministry of National Defence is authorised to provide the amounts necessary to pay fees and commissions related to the restoration of ground-based air defence assets.

Earlier, the Romanian parliament supported the transfer of the complex to Ukraine.
