The European Union will provide Ukraine with €160 million to support the energy sector before winter.
This was announced during a briefing by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
‘We will provide an additional amount of about €160 million for this winter, including €60 million in humanitarian aid. For example, to equip warming centres, heaters, and about €100 million for repairs and renewable energy generation,’ she said.
She also clarified that €100 million of the aid is income from Russian assets frozen in Europe.
According to the President of the European Commission, since the start of the full-scale war, the EU has provided energy support to Ukraine worth about €2 billion, according to minimal estimates. The amount does not include the cost of equipment provided physically.
Russia is trying to plunge Ukraine in the dark with targeted attacks on its energy systems.
