Cyber specialists from the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine attacked the Russian financial sector. Alfa-Bank and Rostelecom came under attack.

Ukrinform reports this with reference to an intelligence source.

‘The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine's cyber corps has carried out another attack on the Russian banking sector, which supports the aggression of Russian troops against Ukraine. In particular, Alfa-Bank, Otkritie Bank, and Rostelecom telecommunications operator were hit,’ the source said.

The cyberattack caused a global failure in the rapid payment system, shutting down financial institutions' mobile apps and online banking, as well as internal bank services.

‘Local media report that Russian banks acknowledge the global failure, but do not specify its cause, nor can they indicate when services will be restored,’ the Defence Intelligence source added.
