The quality of the Russian army has plummeted after heavy losses in the war in Ukraine.

This was noted by the UK Ministry of Defence.

‘Before the invasion of Ukraine, Russia tried to create a modern, professional force capable of carrying out complex operations, but after 1,000 days, Russia's ground forces are radically different from the forces that invaded Ukraine,’ the British said.

Heavy losses have sharply undermined the quality of the occupiers' army. Currently, most of the personnel have received minimal training, and Russian commanders are using basic tactics to move forward, despite the high casualty rates associated with this.

‘Russia has lost at least 3,500 main battle tanks and 7,500 armoured vehicles. The large stockpile of tanks and armoured vehicles, a legacy of the Soviet Union, was Russia's only means of making up for these heavy losses,’ the British Ministry of Defence noted.

Despite this, Russia's territorial gains in Ukraine accelerated in 2024. This is due to the fact that the command did not take into account the loss of personnel, and the Russian army is outnumbered by the Ukrainian army.

The front line is less stable than at any time since the beginning of the war, the British added.
