Polish farmers plan to launch a strike at the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint tomorrow, 23 November, which could last until the end of the year, Lviv Customs has reported.
“Attention international carriers! According to preliminary information from the Polish side, local farmers intend to begin a strike in front of the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint on 23 November at 9:00 a.m. (Kyiv time),” the statement said.
Polish customs officers have indicated that the disruption could extend through the end of 2024.
The strike is expected to restrict only truck traffic:
- Entering Ukraine: Limited to one truck per hour.
- Exiting Ukraine: Trucks weighing more than 3.5 tonnes will be completely blocked.
Buses and passenger cars will be allowed to pass in both directions without restrictions.
Polish farmers have previously protested at the border, including in November 2023, to oppose the import of Ukrainian grain. They argue that Ukrainian grain, sold at lower prices, has caused significant losses to Polish producers.
