The United States has imposed new sanctions on Russia, this time including a number of banks and government officials from the Russian Central Bank.
This is stated on the website of the US Treasury Department.
The sanctions affect more than 50 international Russian banks, more than 40 Russian securities registrars, credit institutions and 15 officials. In particular, Gazprombank and its branches in other countries, CS Bank, Energotransbank, Kremlin Bank, Iturup, Sinara, CentroCredit.
The restrictive measures were imposed on the first deputy chairmen of the Russian Central Bank, Vladimir Chistyukhin and Dmitry Tulin, deputy chairman Olga Polyakova, heads of departments of the regulator and officials of VTB's branch in China.
The US Treasury Department explained that these sanctions are intended to prevent Russia from ‘abusing the international financial system to pay for the technology and equipment it needs to support its illegal and unjust war against Ukraine’.
