By the end of November, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will present a reform concept according to which the army will switch to a corps system, Ukrinform reports, citing sources in the Armed Forces.
‘We will switch to a corps-brigade structure,’ the Armed Forces said.
According to the information, such a system will significantly save human and material resources. At the same time, it is noted that the transition to the corps-division system will require many times more human, financial and material resources, which Ukraine cannot afford now.
It should be noted that the criticism of the brigade structure of the Armed Forces has several aspects. One of the main problems is that Ukrainian brigades often do not fight in full strength, and their battalions are sent to different areas, which leads to a loss of coordination. Some Western experts, such as Tom Cooper and Donald Hill, believe that Ukraine should move from a brigade to a division structure, which is better suited to fighting an enemy like Russia. They note that divisions can provide better manoeuvrability and coordination on the battlefield.
