President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has enacted the decision of the National Security and Defence Council to impose sanctions against ‘the part of the government in Georgia that is now surrendering Georgia to Putin’.
He added that it is important for partners to be honest about what is happening. The President said this in his address.
‘The sanctions apply to 20 people, including Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of the Georgian Dream, and Irakli Kobakhidze, the prime minister.
All restrictive measures - nine in total, including the asset freeze - have been introduced for decades. The sanctions decree has already been published on the presidential website.
In addition to Ivanishvili, sanctions were imposed on the head of the State Security Service, Grigol Liluashvili, Tbilisi Mayor Kaladze Kakhaber, judge Mikheil Chinchaladze, executive secretary of the Georgian Dream Mamuka Mdinaradze, Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri, former Prosecutor General Otar Partskhaladze, media businessman Irakli Rukhadze, Judge Murisidze Levan, MP Viktor Japaridze, against Dimitri Samkharadze, former Minister Khaindrav Giorgi, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, against Giorgi Kobakhidze, Shalemberidze Zviad, Tadumadze Shalva, Minister Thea Tsulukiani, Minister Karseladze Irakli, Bekuari Kakha.
‘If we do not respond in time, or if we do not respond in principle, then decades will be lost and countries will be deprived of freedom,’ Zelenskyy said.
He called for a joint defence against Moscow.
