The United Kingdom has provided emergency support of £35 million to help Ukraine rebuild its energy network. This was announced today by Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The UK is also introducing new sanctions against Russia's energy sector. Today's sanctions target 20 shadow fleet vessels carrying illegal Russian oil, including the Ocean Faye, Andaman Skies and Mianzimu, each of which carried more than four million barrels of Russian oil in 2024.
Key pillars of Putin's oil trade, 2Rivers DMCC and 2Rivers PTE LTD, have also been sanctioned. These new measures will further deplete Putin's war machine by restricting the oil revenues he so desperately needs to fuel his illegal war, and will draw the attention of those who ensure Russia's oil exports.
The UK has sanctioned more than 100 vessels for transporting Russian energy, including 93 oil tankers, than any other country.
Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Finland and Estonia, along with the UK, have agreed to work together to counter suspected Russian shadow vessels along the Baltic route.
