The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has allocated an additional UAH 1.89 billion for the purchase of drones for combat brigades, with over half of the funds designated for Mavic drones, including night-vision models.
According to the ministry’s press service, 55% of the allocation will be spent on Mavic drones, while 18% will go toward FPV kamikaze drones. The remaining funds will be used to procure reconnaissance UAVs, bombers, and spare parts.
The ministry emphasised that this allocation follows instructions from Defence Minister Rustem Umerov and will ensure decentralised procurement, allowing brigades to independently purchase the UAVs they need to execute combat missions. This approach enables drones to be delivered directly to the frontline without delay.
- In total, the Ministry of Defence will have spent over UAH 100 billion on drones by the end of this year. Earlier, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced an additional UAH 1.1 billion allocation for drone purchases by combat brigades.
- In 2025, Ukraine plans to allocate 26.3% of its GDP, or UAH 2.23 trillion, to defence spending.
