A court has imposed a pre-trial restraint on the commander of the 211th Pontoon and Bridge Brigade of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - detention with the right to post UAH 908,400 bail, the Prosecutor General's Office reports.

In addition, the high command has suspended him from duty.

Earlier, Ukrayinska Pravda published a story about the abuse of soldiers of the 211th Pontoon and Bridge Brigade. The investigation into the incidents has been ongoing since this spring, but no one has been punished. The perpetrators were promoted, and those who started talking about the problem were transferred to the infantry.

It was established that in the autumn of 2023, Poberezhnyuk engaged four subordinates in the construction of his house in Khmelnytskyy Region, instead of their service in combat zones. The soldiers were officially included in the order to be seconded to Mykolayiv Region, where they allegedly performed their duties, but in fact they were not there. At the same time, they received salaries and combat payments totalling almost a million hryvnias.

After the investigation was released, the General Staff announced that it would conduct an investigation into the abuses of officials. And by the decision of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, a commission of the Military Law Enforcement Service was sent to the military unit.

Later, it became known that the situation in the brigade was ordered to be investigated by Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.

Law enforcers launched a pre-trial investigation against the brigade's officials on the fact of abuse of power or authority by a military officer (Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). In addition, the brigade commander was served a notice of suspicion of abuse of office (Article 364(2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
