The Army+ app has created a service where servicemen can report their intention to return to service after AWOL (absent without official leave). After being reinstated in service, such servicemen will be able to transfer to another unit that needs them with a letter of recommendation.
‘From now on, Ukrainian servicemen who decide to return after an AWOL will be able to do so in a quick and convenient way. The military will receive notifications about each stage of returning to service with explanations of further actions. And after reinstatement, it is possible to transfer to another unit on the basis of a letter of recommendation from the unit,’ said Minister of Defence of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, the Ministry of Defence reports.
Filling out the report takes about 5 minutes. Using the prompts, the serviceman fills in the data and can also add a letter of recommendation to use it to change the place of service.
The Main Department of the Military Law Enforcement Service (MLS) receives and confirms the data in the report. The serviceman has 24 hours to arrive at the department of the Military Law Enforcement Service of his choice. They will issue documents, issue an order and help him or her get safely to one of the 17 military units on the approved list.
The commander of one of these units has 72 hours to restore the serviceman's pay and social guarantees. After being reinstated in service from a reserve unit, soldiers will be able to transfer to another unit on the basis of a letter of recommendation. To do this, you need to submit an application to change your place of service in Army+.
If it is not the first time that servicemen are in the AWOL, they will be able to apply for return to service until 31 December 2024. There are no such restrictions for those who are new to the service.
