Russian forces launched a massive attack on Ukraine on 25 December, firing more than 70 missiles, including ballistic ones, and over 100 attack drones, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In a Telegram post, Zelenskyy emphasised the calculated nature of the attack, stating, “Every Russian massive attack takes time to prepare. It is never a spontaneous decision. Putin deliberately chose Christmas to attack. What could be more inhuman?”
The primary target of the attack was Ukraine’s energy sector. Preliminary reports indicate that Ukrainian defenders shot down more than 50 missiles and a significant number of drones. Despite this, some strikes landed, causing blackouts in several Regions.
Power engineers are working to restore electricity as quickly as possible.
“I am grateful to everyone who is working for the country, who is on combat duty, who is protecting our skies. We will restore the maximum. Russian evil will not break Ukraine and will not distort Christmas,” Zelenskyy stressed.
- At dawn, Russians attacked Kharkiv with ballistic missiles, striking at least seven times and injuring several people. DTEK reported severe damage to its equipment as a result of the attacks, marking the 13th large-scale assault on Ukraine’s energy sector and the 10th targeting the company’s facilities.
