A 52-year-old resident of Mykolayiv has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property for high treason under martial law, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

In July 2023, the woman, known to hold pro-Russian views, sent photos of the aftermath of missile strikes on critical infrastructure in Mykolayiv via a closed Telegram chatbot. These images were later used by a pro-Russian blogger known as Shaggy in stories for the propaganda outlet RIA Novosti.

Prosecutors successfully demonstrated her intent to assist the enemy, and she has been in custody since her arrest.

  • This is not the first such case in Mykolayiv. Earlier, an electrician was also sentenced to 15 years for installing webcams in the seaport to spy on Ukrainian Armed Forces ships.
