The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has ordered additional 35mm ammunition for the Gepard anti-aircraft system from the German concern Rheinmetall. They are funded by Germany.
According to the company, the new order was placed in December last year. It includes 180,000 HEI-T (high explosive incendiary device with a tracer) rounds.
The value of the deal is not disclosed, but it is said to be in the "double-digit millions of euros".
The ordered ammunition can be used to effectively combat various aerial targets, including drones.
The rounds will be produced at Rheinmetall's plant in Unterluss, Germany. Due to the increased demand for 35 mm ammunition, the production line at the plant was restored in the spring of 2023 in a very short time.
