Ukraine has allowed the first exhumation of the remains of victims of the Volyn tragedy in the village of Puzhnyky in Ternopil Region, which was burned to the ground in 1945, to take place in April.
This was reported by RMF FM.
In particular, it is said that the Freedom and Democracy Foundation, which found the burial site two years ago, received permission from the Ukrainian authorities to dig up the remains and conduct further research.
Maciej Danciewicz, deputy head of the Freedom and Democracy Foundation, said that after the excavation, the remains will be examined by Polish archaeologists and anthropologists. Experts are already collecting genetic material from descendants.
After the research, it is planned to rebury the victims and perpetuate the memory of this place.
It is reported that about 80 people were killed in Puzhnyky during the events of the Volyn tragedy.
The day before, Ukraine and Poland exchanged lists of places to search for and exhume the remains of victims of mutual historical conflicts.
